How to use the tutoring cost calculator

Formula
Session cost = hourly rate × minutes ÷ 60. Weekly cost = session cost × sessions per week. Total = weekly cost × weeks. A month is about 4.33 weeks. With a package discount, total = total × (1 − discount).
Worked examples
A term of tutoring
At $50 an hour, two 45-minute sessions a week for 12 weeks costs $37.50 per session and $900 in total (18 hours). A 10% package discount brings it to $810.
Comparing options
A higher rate for shorter, focused sessions can cost the same as a lower rate for longer ones. Compare the cost per hour of real work.

Set a clear goal
“Raise my algebra grade from a C to a B by the end of the term” is a better goal than “get help with math”. A clear goal helps the tutor plan, and it lets you judge whether the spending is working.
